SCUDO®

Patented passivation for maximum purity of drinking water

Internal passivation and stabilization treatment, carried out during production, ensures full compliance with the potability requirements of European Directive 98/83/EC and Ministerial Decree 174/04. Effective protection to keep the quality of distributed water intact.

Passivation treatment

Natural bacteriostatic action and maximum versatility of use

Compliant with EN 1057, it offers proven bacteriostatic properties, ideal for sanitary water networks in the prevention of Legionnaires' disease. Resistant to pressure and high temperatures (melting point 1083 °C), it is also suitable for domestic gas and heating systems, ensuring safety, reliability and lasting performance.

Bacteriostatic properties

Dimensional accuracy for reliable and secure joints

Low eccentricity values and consistent sizing make the tube ideal for all types of joints, including press fittings. Information required by EU Regulation 305/2011 (CPR) is punched every 60 cm to ensure traceability and compliance.

Key Features

It is composed of refined copper, i.e., virtually pure (Cu DHP 99.90% min.) and as such expressly certified by SCT. It does not contain additive elements such as dyes, fluidizers, plasticizers that may be present in alternative materials derived from petroleum instead. SCUDO® offers, thanks to a patented manufacturing process, a higher quality than that prescribed by standards and regulations and, therefore, significantly better performance than that of commonly marketed pipes.

Internal protection

It undergoes, during production, a patented treatment of passivation and stabilization of the inner wall, which makes it absolutely reliable in compliance with the potability parameters required by the European regulations on transported drinking water (European Directive 98/83 and L.D.31/01). The enactment of the European Directive 98/83/EC, on water intended for human consumption, has highlighted the problem of the suitability of materials used for the various components of the water system in order to ensure that the quality of the drinking water distributed is unaltered. SCUDO® complies with D.M 174/04 (G.U 166, 17/07/04), which defines the conditions to which materials in contact with drinking water must comply.

The natural solution

It is nonmagnetic and therefore does not alter the natural magnetic field. It has proven bacteriostatic properties that make it the ideal material for sanitary water networks to prevent bacterial overgrowth such as Legionnaires' disease. Due to its action on the cell wall of pathogenic microorganisms, SCUDO® copper pipe inhibits the formation of bacteria inside water pipes used for human consumption, which produce their very dangerous effects when sprayed and inhaled, such as during showers, whirlpools, or in the presence of fountains. In addition to a preventive intervention, the copper tube allows, thanks to its physical and chemical properties, the adoption of appropriate decontamination interventions (heat shock, chlorination, chlorine dioxide disinfection,...) without incurring for this the danger of damaging the system. At the end of its extended life cycle, it is entirely and easily recyclable, thus reducing the amount of municipal waste to be disposed of. Copper pipe, unlike other materials, as is well known, has a high salvage value, both as scrap and offcuts and as discarded material, and this value, properly accounted for, makes it even more cost-competitive with other materials, particularly plastic products. It should also be noted that pipes made from plastics, thus through a synthesis of petroleum processing, involve for their composition, careful control over various chemical parameters. It is essential, first of all, to know their actual chemical composition and the possible presence of adhesives, additives, stabilizers, dyes or other compounds that may be used during production.

Specifications

Seamless drawn copper tube, manufactured according to EN 1057, physical state annealed R220, phosphorus deoxidized Cu DHP (Cu + Ag : 99.90% min. - P: 0.015÷0.040%) according to EN 1412, pre-passivation treatment of the inner surface of the tube with carbonaceous residue less than 0.06 mg/dm2, indelible marking every 60 cm by punching the outer surface of the copper tube, CE marking in accordance with EU Regulation 305/2011 for construction products (CPR).
